Due to its black plumage, croaking call, and carrion diet, the raven is often portrayed as harbinger of doom.

However, according to legend, the Kingdom of England will fall if the ravens of the Tower of London are removed.... And that is exactly what happened after WW2 when the Tower's ravens perished or flew away.
